About Shanshan Wu

Portrait of Shanshan Wu

Shanshan Wu

Filmmaker, photographer and researcher.

I am a China-born, UK-based filmmaker and multimedia artist currently pursuing a practice-based PhD in Communication and Media at the University of Liverpool. My research explores memories of the COVID-19 pandemic between China and the UK through moving images, with a particular focus on social media videos, digital memory, and essay film practice.

My artistic practice spans photography, experimental filmmaking, essay film, and video installation, and my work has been presented in group exhibitions and screenings across China and the UK. Shaped by a transcultural background across China, Australia, and the UK, I often explore themes of intimacy, displacement, alienation, belonging, and otherness in relation to migration and everyday life.

My pronouns are she/her. I live with two cats, a Maine Coon named Kai Kai and a Siamese named Mia. Outside of my artistic and academic work, I am also a video game player and fan fiction writer.
